Literary Riches in CoMo
It is a wonderful time to be a book-lover in mid-Missouri.
Last week double Pulitzer Prize winner David McCullough came to town to give a talk at the Missouri Theatre. The 1,200 seat venue was packed to the rafters and over 300 people had to be turned away.
And this Sunday afternoon, October 18, literary folk will be spoiled for choice three times over.
At Orr Street Studios, acclaimed author Steve Weinberg is giving a talk about the art of biography as part of the University of Missouri's always excellent "Speaking of Culture" series. The talk starts at 2.00. Steve is a wonderful writer and an equally compelling speaker, and it promises to be a fascinating talk. He is presently writing a biography of Gary Trudeau, under contract at a major publisher.
The publication of THERE IS NOT FASHION TO IT, a volume of the collected poems of much-missed and beloved MU English professor Tom McAfee, will be celebrated at Teller's Wine Bar, from 2.30 to 4.00. There will be food and music and the book (which is wonderful) will be available for sale.
Finally, just in time for Halloween, authors Laura McHugh and Eric Praschan will be discussing the art of suspense fiction at the Columbia Barnes & Noble at 2.00. There will be giveaways and much lively discussion.
The only problem is that all three events are occurring more or less simultaneously, but this falls under the category of a "nice problem to have." Come out and enjoy some bookish goodness this weekend!
