Shane Bauer, author of AMERICAN PRISON, is coming to Unbound!
One of the panels that we’re most looking forward next April is a discussion about the US Prison system. In addition to Walidah Imarisha, another participant on that panel will be Shane Bauer, whose book, American Prison: A Reporter's Undercover Journey Into the Business of Punishment, was recently named one of the 10 best books of 2018 by the New York Times.
Shane is a senior reporter for Mother Jones. In addition to the New York Times recognition, American Prison was a finalist for the Kirkus Prize in Nonfiction. Shane’s journalism has appeared in The Nation, Salon, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Christian Science Monitor, and many other publications. He is the recipient of the National Magazine Award for Reporting, the Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting, the Michael Kelley Award, the Hillman Proze for Magazine Journalism, and at least twenty others. Bauer is the coauthor, along with Sarah Shourd and Joshua Fattal, of a memoir, A Sliver of Light, which details his time spent as a prisoner in Iran.
We’re so excited about this panel - it will certainly be one of the do-not-miss events of the festival!
