Stop Press! New Event Announced for February 18! MASK OFF/MASK ON

We’re still adding new events to this year’s schedule!

On Thursday, February 18, we’re excited to present another great discussion about YA literature. (You may be noticing a mini-theme this year. We love Young Adult books, and fervently believe that they are for all Adults, not merely the Young ones. We’d love for you to watch and find out why.) Two rising superstars, Elizabeth Lim and Dean Atta, will be discussing their brilliant work in an event entitled MASK OFF/MASK ON.

Here’s the event description:

At some point, we've all felt the need to hide a part of ourselves from the world-- for privacy, for comfort, for safety. However, it's from behind that same mask that we sometimes find the freedom to become our truest selves… Whether disguised or in drag, the young protagonists of Elizabeth Lim's Spin the Dawn and Dean Atta's The Black Flamingo give a crash course in the art of taking up space. Join us as the authors consider the role of costume, competition and color in their characters' fight to defy the gender and societal expectations that demand a black and white world.
