Kristen Radtke!
Do you remember back in the olden days?
Specifically, 2020?
We were heartbroken when we had to abandon what would have been the fifth Unbound Book Festival, but a lot of the events that we had planned for that year were rescheduled and held virtually in 2021. One of the panels that we chose not to do online, because we really wanted to hold it in person, was about graphic memoirs. That event will take place this April - only two years late.
We’ve already introduced you to Maia Kobabe, and now we’re pleased to welcome one of the authors who was due to appear on the original panel, Kristen Radtke.
Kristen Radtke’s most recent book is the widely acclaimed Seek You: A Journey Through American Loneliness, which The Los Angeles Times praised as “[A] resonant, haunting volume of graphic nonfiction written and drawn in the key of Edward Hopper.” It is the recipient of a 2019 Whiting Creative Nonfiction Grant and was on numerous most anticipated list. Her first book is the genre-smashing graphic memoir, Imagine Wanting Only This, a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers Pick, a Junior Library Guild Selection, and a Nylon Most Anticipated Book. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, Marie Claire, The Atlantic, The Guardian, GQ, Vogue, Oxford American, and many other places. Radtke received an MFA from the University of Iowa’s Nonfiction Writing Program. She is the former managing editor of Sarabande Books and is currently the art director and deputy publisher of The Believer. She lives in Brooklyn, NY.
