This Thursday - the Mingus Big Band and “On the Road.”

We’re not quite done yet!

This Thursday, April 28, we’re proud to be a partner with our friends at the “We Always Swing” Jazz Series for a fabulous event at the Blue Note. Y’all should come.

This year marks the centennial of the great and charismatic bassist, Charles Mingus. In a more literary vein, 2022 would also have been the hundredth birthday of another cultural iconoclast - Jack Kerouac. And so we thought: why not throw a party for both of these giants? So - we did.

On Thursday the brilliant, 14-piece Mingus Big Band is coming to town for the first time in twenty years. Their performance is going to be paired with readings from the Kerouac classic, "On the Road.” Readers include Hitt Records’ Kyle Cook; noted author-journalist Nina Furstenau; KBIA announcer and poet T’Keyah Thomas; and cultural man about town Kevin Walsh.

It’s going to be an evening of wonderful words and fantastic music, and we’d love to see you there!
