SUN YUNG SHIN
Sun Yung Shin is a Korean-born poet and multi-genre writer. She is the author of four books of poetry, most recently The Wet Hex (Coffee House Press); is the author of two illustrated books for children, most recently Where We Come From; and is the editor/co-editor of three anthologies of essays, most recently What We Hunger For: Refugee and Immigrant Stories on Food and Family. Her forthcoming picture book, co-authored with Mélina Mangal, is about Detroit-based civil rights activists and radical intellectuals Grace Lee Boggs and James Boggs. Shin's poetry books have won a Minnesota Book Award and an Asian American Literary Award; she has received fellowships from MacDowell, the McKnight Foundation, the Bush Foundation, and the Minnesota State Arts Board. With poet Su Hwang she is the co-founder of Poetry Asylum; she teaches creative writing with the Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop and elsewhere. She lives in Minneapolis with her family.
