Housebound Unbound: Future Imperfect.
We were looking forward to bringing you so many brilliant writers in April before the COVID-19 virus struck, and we’re not ready to give up quite yet! We’re planning to bring you some of the events that we had planned for this year’s Unbound via the magic of the internet. Ah, technology.
First up - appropriately enough, given the apocalyptic world we’re living in now - we’re thrilled to be hosting an author conversation between Amber Sparks and Alexander Weinstein about speculative fiction. Both have recently published spellbinding new story collections, and it promises to be a fascinating discussion. Here’s the event description that would have gone into the program:
In “The Toynbee Convector,” Ray Bradbury shows how extravagant liars can be prophets: show us your vision of the future, and we can make it happen. But they can also be Cassandras who try to warn us away from a terrible fate. In this conversation, Amber and Alexander will discuss how they conceive and construct multiple narrative futures, and how to avert or manifest them.
The conversation will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 23. Nearer the time we will provide a link for people to watch and join the conversation. As with all Unbound events, there will be an opportunity for Q and A - you’ll be able to send your questions via text to the moderator.
We look forward to seeing you there!
