Housebound Unbound II: Historical Fiction - You Had To Be There
We’re happy to announce the second edition of our newly reconfigured online festival! On Thursday, April 30, at 7:00 p.m., we’ll be hosting a panel featuring novelists Whitney Scharer, Meg Waite Clayton, and Alex George. Tune in (details to follow) to watch their conversation about their different approaches to writing historical fiction.
Here’s the panel description:
E.L. Doctorow wrote: "A historian will tell you what happened. A novelist will tell you what it was like to be there." What obligations do the writers of historical novels to be faithful to the historical record? Is there actually a different story they’re trying to tell? And how complicated does that become when a book features real-life characters? Join Clayton (The Last Train to London), Scharer (The Age of Light) and George (The Paris Hours) as they discuss how each addressed these issues in their most recent novels.
